God Save America- Introduction
Why has America been the most prosperous nation over the last 200 years? Why is America prosperous in technology, agriculture, energy, education and freedoms? Why hasn’t America ever been attacked on the homeland/heartland on a large scale? If you were to ask the Government those questions I believe you would hear the answers of our nuclear capabilities, our large military force, and our network of intelligence and satellite systems? But I tell you it is not for those reasons. America has been prosperous because we have always had a divine hedge of protection over our nation. But what happens when that hedge of protection is lifted? In this new preaching series, “God Save America”, I want us to go to the Word of God and see if we can find some answers, some patterns and parallels to what happens to America when God’s divine hedge of protection is lifted because we as a nation have been forsaking God.
A Mother's Request
In our text we see a mother’s request for her sons and what a request it was. We see momma Zebedee looking out for the best interests and spiritual life of her boys. It seems like Mrs. Zebedee was being a little selfish and overprotective for her sons. However, I believe she was just trying to be certain that when the Lord established His kingdom, her boys would have positions of responsibility and authority- she just wanted the very best for her sons.
Side-Effects: Persecution
How much have we been persecuted because of our faith in Jesus Christ? Have we ever lost friends, jobs or anything for the faith? Have we ever been driven from our homes for the faith? Have we ever been falsely accused, verbally abused or physically beaten because of the faith? The truth is we have lost little or nothing at all when it concerns our faith and what does that mean? Does it mean our faith is so watered down it doesn’t offend the world around us? Does it mean the world can’t tell from our witness that we are Christian? Does it mean we are not shining bright in a dark world? Does it mean we are more saltless than salty?

Paul wanted the church to know a few things: 1) He wanted the church to know God's possession of them: 2) He wanted the church to know God's presence in them: 3) He wanted the church to know God's purpose for them:
Side-Effects: Problems
Now, like any medications we take there are always those unwanted side-effects we have to contend with. In the same way, when a church is taking a daily dose of God’s M.E.D.S. (missions, evangelism, discipleship, service) there will be side-effects as well; side-effects of both positive and negative problems due to growth and side-effects of problems due to external and internal persecutions.
