Students | Wait // The Vineyard Initiative

The Seven Verbs of Discipleship is a disciple making tool created by Justin Ulmer; it consists of seven principles that point to the ongoing actions of effective disciples of Jesus Christ.

The 7th Verb of Discipleship:  Wait
Building and maintaining a vineyard requires a monumental amount of work.  However, at the end of the day, no matter how much blood, sweat, and tears go into this good work, the vineyard worker has no control over whether or not anything grows.  Only God has that power.  As disciples, we must learn the lost art of waiting and watching for God to move, and always be ready to respond accordingly.

How is Waiting an act of discipleship?
Most people don’t associate waiting with action, but anyone that has every truly waited for something knows that waiting is hard work.  Our God is a God of seasons.  He is the God of the right place at the right time.  He doesn’t rush things, and he won’t be rushed.  Therefore, every disciple must learn how to wait on God.  Waiting on God implies a constant state of peace, trusting that God is always in control.  It also implies a constant state of readiness, knowing that God’s timing is perfect.
